example 10 – constraints

It would be rare, but what if the person entering the instalment didn’t have a mobile phone? Also the “dome” environment this instalment talks about is a large scale work, where we have limited space and only so much altering we can do to that space.

Example 10- doodles

Doodles is an  installation that uses mobile phone charms in a dome environment which enables visitors to see the Radio Frequency Energy that is generated by cellular phones. Visitors are invited to stand inside this dome and make telephone calls to their friends. This instalation makes people aware of what is actually going on in the ubiquitous computing world of mobile technology. The interactive element is that when the participants actually use their phones they create the energy and the “doodles” to activate. This is an interesting way to create an artwork because the user is really the artist using pre made artforms.

example 9 – constraints

Because all the orb does is change colour, if there were going to be multiples of people actually seeing an instalment such as this, they would need to know what the different colours mean so as to not get confused. Also because the orb can be set to different information to visualise, there would be differnt rules to observe when using it as to which colour goes with which piece of information. Confusing!

example 9 – ambient orb

The ambient orb is a new way of monitoring everyday data in a more design oriented way. Visually pleasing to look at, the orb changes its colour depending on what is happening. For example this could be used to display the current weather situation – blue for rain, or red for no rain.

example 7 – constraints

Technology to actually create the digitalised easel could pose the biggest threat to production and also the budget would need to be considered. Fibre optic bristles for the paint brush, but more importantly the actual “canvas” would be a big constraint also.

example 5 – constraints

In the come to pieces instalment, issues that could hinder creation, involve privacy of the participants. Not everyone will want to get their photo/ video of themselves taken therefore there has to be some way of not capturing these people. Technology is also another issue.

example 8 – constraints

The main constraint for this I would believe to be the back end coding to get it all working. However, if we were able to learn how to do it then the only big constraint is actually where to put it. The space required for the instalment itself and also the technological set up  would be too great for the space that we have available to work with.

example 8 – metamorphosis

Metamorphosis is a an instalation that totally surrounds the user in both sound and visual stimulation, and is completely interactive and ubiquitous. The user interacts with a butterfly projection in different ways depending on how they move whilst in the instalation. For example if you get too close to the butterfly, it will retreat back into its chrysalis as if scared. The interaction is completely up to the user because there is no set way of interacting.metamorphosis

example 4 – constraints

A constraint that directly affects this artwork is that it would need to either be placed somewhere where there is more than one person at any one time, or users can only participate when in groups of two or more. If there is only one person, it cannot map different peoples locations in relation to one another. it would only be one destination and one origin.

example 7 – Easel

The Easel instalment is an interactive portrait style piece. It takes video footage of the participant and then alleaselows them to create an artwork from the footage using fibre optics for the brushes and infra red light and some “paint cans”. In this sense they become the artist of the piece.
